JUJUTSU/TAIJUTSU
Jujutsu
Since the 16th century the word jujutsu has been used as a generell
term for unarmed combat in Japan. The very word jujutsu translates
roughly to "soft technique". However "softness"
is not to be confused with "weakness", instead it is to be
regarded in the sense of not using brute force when confronting
force. Some people even claim that "softness" is to be
regarded in the rellationship of swordsmanship, because defeating
your opponent with "soft techniques" is more humane.

Taijutsu
Taijutsu translates "body technique" and has been a
frequently used term for "unarmed combat" instead of
"jujutsu" in Japan. Several traditional martial art
schools in Japan refeers to their unarmed techniques as taijutsu
techniques.
